Choctaw

Choctaw, Oklahoma
Choctaw is a small incorporated city on the East side of Greater Oklahoma City. It has a small but growing population and is highly attractive for new construction due to lower land cost, and rolling topography, and heavily treed land that is getting higher end price range construction. Located along I-40, it is typically a 20 minute drive to the downtown Oklahoma City center, and only 10 minutes or less to Tinker Air Force Base, one of the major employers in Oklahoma with 28,000 on base and as many off base. Choctaw is the name of an Indian Tribe relocated to Oklahoma when it was Indian Territory. And one of what was called The Five Civilized Tribes of the South. Choctaw recently celebrated in100th anniversary as a city in 1993.
One of the reasons for growth is that Choctaw has been spending a large amount of its money on the secondary school system. As of 2008, 25.9% of the population is under the age of 18. Being on the fringe of the urbanized eastern end of Oklahoma City, the West side of Choctaw is where most new construction exist which is in the Oklahoma City limits, and this area is expected to equal the Choctaw proper population of 9,377 people according to the 2000 census.
